While there are three main countries, each has different requirements.

For Mexico and Canada, there is no minimum waiting time as long as their vaccinations are up to date.

The United States has restrictions on the entry of dogs into its territory, and an import permit is required for entry.

Canada

For the importation of dogs and cats, it is required that they have current annual vaccinations, as well as internal and external parasite treatment, a certificate of good health, and English translation of the documents.

Estimated processing time: 1-2 weeks.

United States

There are currently temporary restrictions for the importation of dogs. For dog importation, it is required that they have an implanted microchip, current annual vaccinations, rabies antibodies, internal and external parasite treatment, a Zoosanitary Export Certificate, among others. Additionally, a import permit is needed.

Estimated processing time: 2-4 months (depending on vaccination status)

For cats, it is required that they have current annual vaccinations, as well as internal and external parasite treatment, and a health certificate.

Mexico

Requires for the importation of dogs and cats that they have up-to-date annual vaccinations (minimum 30 days), as well as internal and external deworming and a certificate of good health.

Approximate processing time: 1-2 weeks.

Central America

Costa Rica

For the importation of dogs and cats, it is required that they have current annual vaccinations, as well as internal and external parasite treatment, a Zoosanitary Export Certificate, and kennel disinfection.
